EdgeCut Arts presents the inaugural Sound + Gesture Lab, a laboratory exploring the intersection of improvised sound and movement. A curated group of performing artists experiment together over four sessions, proposing prompts and short compositions that blend music and dance into a shared improvisatory language. The process culminates on Nov 16, where the collective sequences their discoveries into one spontaneous performance — no hierarchy, just sound + gesture in motion.
The lab is led by Nick Hallett and Kat Mustatea. Nick identifies as a composer with years of experience in the dance world, and Kat is a playwright and cross-genre artist whose work often defies categorization (see: BodyMouth). After collaborating at the 2025 “Sound and Movement Interaction” workshop in Darmstadt, Germany, they are bringing this unique experiment in sound and movement to New York, hosted at EdgeCut Arts’ new performance space.
